Frequently
Asked
Questions

Are you a public, or a private school?

We are a tuition-free public charter school serving students in grades TK-7th (8th grade next year) that live in Lake Elsinore and surrounding cities. We are able to offer free top-quality education to students thanks to funding from the state of California.

What is the difference between a charter school and a public school?

Charter schools have the freedom to operate from some of the district's rules and regulations, while still operating under the rules and guidelines of the state.

What makes Julia Lee Performing Arts Academy different?

We pride ourselves in offering attentive customer service, handpicking caring teachers and staff, and providing quality college-preparatory education plus offering education in the Arts (Music, Dance, and Theater).

Do you challenge advanced students or help those who need extra help?

Yes and yes. We want students to excel in their studies and ultimately in their lives. In order to track their growth at our school, we use different tools to map their areas of strengths and opportunities. Those reports are available for parents to see and review with their teachers. We do not cap students at their grade level. We give them the challenge and the help they need.

Do teachers need a credential to teach at this school?

Definitely! Our Principal, who has more than 25 years of experience in the charter world, chooses candidates carefully and we do require teachers to have a clear credential and a strong education behind them to teach our beloved students.

What type of curriculum do you offer?

At Julia Lee Performing Arts Academy, we have adopted the California Department of Education's (CDE) Common Core Standards, which make classes transferable. Additionally, our students have Music, Dance, and Theater class taught by experts in their field. For more information on our curriculum, please give us a call to talk to our experienced principal.

Who is Julia Lee?

Julia Lee (October 31, 1902 – December 8, 1958) was an American blues musician. She was one of the most popular performers in Kansas City until her death in Kansas City, at the age of 56. In 1944 she secured a recording contract with Capitol Records, and a string of R&B hits followed, including "Gotta Gimme Whatcha Got" (No. 3 R&B, 1946), "Snatch and Grab It" (No. 1 R&B for 12 weeks, 1947, selling over 500,000 copies), according to Wikipedia.

Our Founder decided to start a school to serve children in Lake Elsinore. She decided to incorporate the arts in honor of her great aunt, Julia Lee.

Are class sizes big at this school?

Smaller class sizes are our standard. This encourages a much-needed positive student-teacher relationship.

Will you protect my student from bullying at this school?

We will do our best to keep all students safe. We take bullying seriously and will do what we can to prevent and give attention to cases of bullying.

Do you have a lunch program?

Yes, we offer school lunch using Preferred Meals as our vendor, eligibility for free and reduced lunch is based on income. Forms are available online and in the office.

This school sounds amazing, how do I enroll?

Please fill out the interest form under our Interest tab here on our website. We serve on a first-come, first-serve basis. As soon as we identify a seat available in one of our classes, we will give you a call.

COVID- 19 Questions

Are you doing in-person school for students during COVID-19?

In order for us to protect our students, their families, and our staff, we have adopted Distance Learning and do our best to keep our classes engaging and our students sharp. We continue to follow the lead of the CDE.

Do I need to buy a computer for my student?

Though you are free to make that decision, we provide devices for each student to access their classes from home.

Is Distance Learning the same as Homeschool?

No, and we are a seat-based program. For now, we issue students a device to log into their teacher-led direct instruction from home. That means that they see their teacher every day through Zoom during their scheduled class.
